Carolina Jasmine is loved for their brilliant display of fragrant, bright yellow flowers and for its ability to adapt to chain-link fences quickly. Gelsemium sempervirens (botanical name) is native to the southeastern U.S., and they have beautiful emerald green foliage too, so they are often used to disguise fences around swimming pools. We love the look of this jasmine vine as it is climbing beautifully over fences, creating a stunning privacy screen of bright yellow along the way! We also like to use them on slopes, and banks, where when left to sprawl without support make an informal, mounding, colorful groundcover.
These fast-spreading Gelsemium vines are easy to care for plants that require low to moderate water once established. Plant Carolina Jasmine in a spot that gets partial to full sun exposure and feel free to prune them once a year to control the size. These are vigorous growers with support from a trellis or arbor and are the perfect companion to plants such as Bougainvillea, Daylily, and Hibiscus, all of which are grown and nurtured by us and available at our Moon Valley Nurseries throughout Houston. See the difference of our custom-grown trees, shrubs, and plants for yourself!
