Bush Morning Glory is used to add a bright splash of color to any landscape! In their native habitat of tropical South America, Ipomoea carnea is found growing along rivers, canals, and beaches. Here in Houston, we like to plant this low-mounding shrub to fill in spaces between plants or in any space where grass will not grow. These are useful tropical plants that can enhance any space in your landscape with year-round green foliage and periodic blooms of white flowers from spring to fall.
Bush Morning Glory grow well in Houston. They prefer full sun exposure and can tolerate dry shade too. They have little to moderate watering needs once established, so they are suitable for growing in Xeriscape designs such as rock gardens. We like to plant them in groups, though they look fine on their own too. If left to grow tall, they are also suitable for hedges or planted along fence lines, walls, trellis and to define borders. We also like to plant them as a background plant in a mixed border!
Anyone that loves the pleasant sight of butterflies and hummingbirds in their garden will be happy to know that Bush Morning Glory attracts them in droves when in bloom. They do not have any thorns, so feel free to plant them near walkways too.
