Though not actually a new variety, its parentage features the most desirable aspects of Moon Valley Nurseries' proprietary “Piru” strain of extra robust Queen palms blended with the grace, beauty, and exceptional durability of selectively bred Pindo palms, the King Piru takes it to the next level for unique palms.

When considering all aspects that make a truly great and successful palm, the Piru King Palm^® exceeds all expectations. Amazingly durable, this palm thrives in soils that other palms may struggle in. Alkaline, salty, heavy clay and even caliche-type soils are no problem for the Piru King Palm^®. Since this palm is sterile, you can expect very little to no litter throughout the entire year. Because this palm grows at such a perfect rate, trimming is very minimal. Yet, the tree continues to maintain an amazing appearance for many years while only noticeably gaining some nominal height each year. Going one step further, this palm has the incredible ability to not only thrive in the hottest summer sun our area can bring, but it’s also cold hardy in winter temperatures down to 12 degrees F!
