Bougainvillea shrubs are known most for their showy flowers and the abundance of flowers that grow around the entire shrub. This shrub is extremely versatile in how it can be used due to its many varieties. It can grow from 1 ft. to up to 20 ft. with support from a trellis. When planted in an area that receives warm sun and at least six hours of sunshine, this shrub will grow quickly. Based on the variety that you plant, you could have white, orange, pink, or magenta flowers to use as accents throughout your yard. In warm climates like ours, these shrubs never stop blooming, so there is year-round color in your landscape.
Every time a plant is watered, the soil should be thoroughly saturated to a depth of at least 2 to 3 feet and at least as wide as a tree well. Very slow and deep watering is always recommended. During periods of extreme heat, we advise at least 1 additional time per week of watering for all varieties. For periods of heavy rain (1/2” or more) adjust accordingly by possibly skipping a watering session for that time.
Perfect to crawl up a block wall. Our backyard has never looked better. The Bougainvillea is the cherry to my tropical oasis and really fills the space well.
